Process

From upload to e-file in four clear steps.

File Only is designed for organized filers. You stay in control of documents and the final e-file authorization.

  1. Eligibility & quote

Tell us your filing picture. We confirm File Only scope and send a firm quote inside the published range.

  2. Secure upload

Share W-2s, 1099s, prior-year returns, and ID as needed. We’ll flag anything missing before work begins.

  3. Preparation & review

We prepare your federal return, plus any required state returns. It is reviewed and signed by a licensed CPA.

  4. You approve & e-file

Preview the return, ask questions by email, then authorize e-file. You’re copied on confirmations.

What we need from you

Documents

  • Prior-year return (PDF)
  • Income forms (W-2, 1099, K-1 if applicable)
  • Property tax / mortgage interest statements
  • Health coverage forms (if any)
  • Government ID for e-file identity checks

Timing

Turnaround depends on season and completeness. Once documents are complete and the engagement letter is signed, most File Only returns move through preparation and review within a defined window we share in your quote email.

Peak season (February–April) may take longer. We’ll set expectations before work starts.

What File Only is—and isn’t

A good fit if you…

  • Have most documents ready
  • Want email-first communication
  • Prefer a fixed-scope package over hourly billing
  • Need federal preparation, plus any required state returns

Better as a consult first if you…

Consults are off-season only (May–January / after April 15)—not offered February through mid-April. During spring filing season, use File Only or File + Notes, or wait until consults reopen.

  • Need entity structuring or multi-year planning
  • Have an open IRS notice or audit
  • Run a complex partnership or multi-member LLC
  • Are amending several prior years at once
